Science in this story

The four friends meet four ideas on the ramp — and every one of them can be found in the story text below.

Slope and speedRollii

The higher the start, the faster the marble goes — lower it, and the marble slows down.

Sharp bends and turningGiggle

The faster the marble goes, the harder it is to take a sharp bend. Too fast, and it leaves the track.

P1Arriving at the cloud ramp
Rollii

I'm going to be the fastest today!

Giggle

This white track is so tall and so long!

Mossy

It winds all the way from the mountain top to the rainbow finish.

Watching the route, getting ready

Narration

The four friends arrive at the cloud ramp. Rollii's eyes light up — he raises the start high and sets the marble at the front.

Rollii

Ready… go!

The start sets the speed

Narration

Zip! The rainbow marble shoots away.

2B

Rollii

Faster! Even faster!

Mossy

First bend, then the second slope — fast as a streak of yellow wind!

P3Off the track3A · 3B

3A

Giggle

Careful — there's a sharp bend ahead!

Too fast to take the bend

Narration

The marble reaches the sharp bend — and suddenly, thunk! It flies off the track.

3B

Rollii

Huh? I wanted it to rush to the finish — so why can't it get there?

Giggle

Oops — it rolled off into the soft grass.

Too much energy to hold

P4Four friends look together
Rollii

Then let's add a big jump — it can fly right over the bend!

Bubbo

Hold on — where did it come off the track?

Mossy

This bend is too tight — the marble is too fast to turn.

Finding where it went wrong

Narration

Rollii stops. Bubbo pulls his goggles down, and Mossy points to the track before the bend.

P5Faster is not always better
Giggle

So faster isn't always better? Then let's test twice.

Rollii

Okay — first I'll lower the start. Just that one thing.

Mossy

Look at the board — a steeper slope makes the marble too fast to turn.

Comparing two tries

Narration

First try: they lower the start, and the marble stops short. Second try: Mossy smooths only the bend — and this time it rolls all the way home.

P6Ding! The finish bell rings6A · 6B

6A

Rollii

Going slower can be amazing too!

Fast and steady gets there

Narration

The rainbow marble sets off again, trundles down the slope, holds the sharp bend — and rings the finish bell. Ding!

6B

Rollii

I get it — that's what "haste makes waste" means. Go fast, but read the track first.

Giggle

The next stop is going to be even more exciting!

Bubbo

I saw it clearly — this time it held the bend, steady.

Checking the answer

The Big Idea

Haste makes waste
What it means
Rush too hard and you can miss the goal.
From the story
The marble was too fast and flew off at the bend. Then they changed one thing at a time — and it reached the end.

Read together

Think about it
① Why didn't the marble reach the finish? ② There's a sharp bend on the track — would you go faster or slower?
3-minute activity
With an adult, build a short, low track with a slope and a bend. Send an object through fast first, then lower the start or flatten the slope, and compare the two results. Ask your child to finish: "When it was too fast, ___; when it was slower, ___." The point is comparing, not speed.
Note for grown-ups
Children often link "fast" with "good". Ask: "Rollii was fast — so why didn't the marble arrive?" Help them see that finishing something needs control, watching and adjusting, not just speed. "Haste makes waste" doesn't mean always going slowly — it means checking your method before rushing.
Next time
Further along the cloud ramp, Giggle is designing a twisty surprise bend. But the marble won't go to plan — will Giggle give up?
Safety note
Adult supervision required. Follow the toy's age guidance and safety instructions. Do not make speed the goal.

Want to try controlling the speed yourself?

The track in this chapter has a slope and a sharp bend. Rollii and friends found out that going too fast means you can't take the corner — your family can run the same test at home.
